Lash extensions are all the rage now days and your wanting to know all the deets about them, well look no further! I am going to get you prepared for what you need to know when making the decision "are lash extensions for me?"
First off I want to begin with explaining to you what exactly a lash extension is. Most of the lashes used in the lash extension process are synthetic mink, made of polyester. You can get authentic mink that is harvested by brushing the animal; this looks and feels the most natural, but it's also the most expensive and doesn't last as long as synthetic. "Polish" lashes, named for their black shine are the least natural looking.
Semi-permanent lashes, also known as individual lash extensions, are eyelashes applied with an adhesive glue which is usually cyanoacrylate. There are different types of cyanoacrylates including ethyl, methyl, butyl, and octyl, which is designed for bonding to different surfaces. Lash adhesives are made from methyl-2-cyanoacrylate which is designed to bond a smooth surface (the eyelash extension) to a porous surface (the natural eyelash). It is designed to be used around the eyes and on the natural lashes, but not on the skin which can cause irritation. Eyelash extensions give the appearance of having mascara on without the messy clumps and smudging of makeup. Generally, a single lash is applied to each natural lash. When applied properly, neither the eyelash extension nor the glue should touch the eyelid because it may cause irritation. This was designed to last until the lashes naturally fall out, which is usually around 3–4 weeks. After those 3-4 weeks, new lash growth will need to be bonded, making lash extensions a regular monthly service if one wishes to maintain the full look.
So now for the big question 'are eyelash extensions for me?' Almost anyone can enjoy eyelash extensions, but if one or two of the following applies to you, this may not be the best service for you.
*RUBBING YOUR EYES FREQUENTLY
If you rub your eyes frequently due to allergies such as hay fever, or if rubbing your eyes is just a habit, you may not be able to wear extensions. The less you touch the extensions the longer the will last.
*YOU HAVE NO NATURAL EYELASHES.
A person who does not have any natural lashes cannot wear extensions because there is no where to place them. Extensions must be placed on the natural eyelash and not directly on the skin. Consider using a different form of eyelash treatments.
*YOU ARE SICK OR HAVE ALLERGIES. If you have a cold, sinus or allergy infection, please do not get extensions (wait till you are 100% better) They will not last a normal amount of time due to irritation and secretions in the eye area.
*YOU HAVE HIGHLY SENSITIVE SKIN. If you experience irritation around the eye area after using skincare or makeup, extensions may not work for you.
With lash extensions touch-ups are recommended every 3 weeks after the initial full set application to replace any eyelashes that may have fallen out. Some clients must come in before 3 weeks since having a faster natural growth cycle. How long your eyelash extensions will last really depends on a couple things
*How well you follow the aftercare guidelines
*Your own natural eyelash growth cycle
Usually this service takes at least 2 hours to complete because the extensions are applied one lash at a time. Be sure to set aside at least 2 hours for your appointment. There will be no rush for your gorgeous results!
